I’m an Internet infopreneur.  The term itself needs some explaining upfront, so let me begin with that.  An infopreneur is an “information entrepreneur”, someone who turns words (or more specifically, information) into income – in a number of innovative ways.  I’m an infopreneur who uses the Internet as a medium for distributing and monetizing information.

It all began when I read a short free report – around 11 pages – by famous author and real estate specialist Robert Allen.  In that report, Bob explained the real value of building a business around information and infoproducts.  Two things about it attracted me immediately.

#1 – You can add value to the world through your words. There is a deluge of data all around.  But data, while helpful, isn’t quite valuable.  What’s really valuable is INFORMATION.  It turns what was a noisy cacophony into a melodious symphony, and information is what people in need or search of it will pay you for – happily.

#2 – You can get paid forever for work done once. Think about an author who writes a book.  Let’s say it takes a year of hard work to get it finished.  But then, if it becomes a best-seller, it could sell a few MILLION copies over the next twenty years, and the author will get paid royalties all through this time…even if he doesn’t write a single word more!

These were the benefits that turned me towards information entrepreneurship.

The year was 1995, and the Internet had just come to India.  I was an early adopter, and found myself fascinated at the global reach and access the World Wide Web offered at my fingertips.

For the first few months, I simply browsed and learned.  Everything was exciting and fun.  I could read documents from the world’s most famous medical libraries, follow discussions on public forums populated by top specialists in any field, and download reports, read articles and explore websites providing very niche information on diverse subjects.

Consuming quickly led to creating.  I built my first website in 1996.  It was about heart disease (my area of specialization as a medical professional) and hosted on the free Geocities server.  That website was a labor of love. I wrote detailed articles about various facets of heart health and preventing or treating heart disease. No thought of making money from it had struck my mind, even after reading the infopreneuring document by Bob Allen.

For eight months, hardly anyone read my site.  The monthly visitor count barely hit double digits.  But since then, and until today, I maintain that it is never about “how many” but always about “who” is in your contact network.  One of the people who read my articles was Bob Schulties, whom I later discovered was scouting for writing talent to populate a new website with content.

At that time, no one had heard of “The Mining Company”.  Today, many million Netizens know of it as About.com, the Web’s 7th most visited online property! I was the heart disease guide on the service for nearly 2 years.  It was the first time someone thought my content valuable enough to pay me for it, and right from that time, I’ve been paid a lot for my writing!  (In fact, my writing has helped fund my surgical work with under-privileged children born with congenital heart defects, but that’s another story for another day!)

Even this very early foray I took into infopreneuring has many valuable lessons for today’s beginners thinking about becoming information entrepreneurs.  Here are some:

1.  Be the expert. I doubt if my writing would have appealed to anyone if it had not been rooted in specialist knowledge that was designed to help someone solve a problem.  And we are all experts at something.  Finding that area of special knowledge, and tying it in to a need that exists in the world, is at the root of being a successful infopreneur.

2.  Just do it. Too many people try to figure it all out before they begin.  This can be harmful, because more often than not, you’ll end up convincing yourself about how sure you are to fail!  Instead, if you have a fair idea what you’d like to do, just go on and try it out.  Sure, you might still fail – but even if you do, you’ll learn something valuable. Then again, you just might succeed!

3.  Be patient and passionate. I’m a contrarian in what I teach about information marketing because my emphasis is on following your passion and doing something you like and enjoy.  The rationale is simple.  Meaningful success in writing and information product selling is bound to take some time and effort.  If you pursue topics you are not really engaged with or enthusiastic about, it becomes easy to give up when things go slow or bad.  Be prepared to wait for success.  It will arrive – in time.

4.  Information is precious. Information is the distilled, curated, analyzed, interpreted and collated version of raw data.  The expert infopreneur has the skills and knowledge to go after sources of data, sift through the mess, and come up with the rare golden nuggets – and then present them to an audience in a way that is easy to consume, and of tangible value to them.

5.  Residual income is the goal. Working on a strategy with your information business is important if you’re looking to make it a reliable source of profit and something to scale, develop and turn into a valuable asset – maybe even sell off for a big payday somewhere down the line.  A strategic approach is what turns casual article writing and occasional ebook publishing into a sustainable information product empire that grows and gets more and more profitable over time.

It took me ten years to wrap my head around the intricacies and nuances of information marketing.  But for all that time, it was enjoyable, exciting and educational.  That’s the reason I stuck with it.  After gaining so much experience and expertise, I decided to write a book that teaches information marketers the steps along the path.

That book took almost a year to finish, but “Think, Write and Retire!” became an Amazon.com Top 100 seller within 24 hours of its launch.  The title was chosen specifically to encapsulate the infopreneur’s dream.

“Think” – because you need to plan your strategy, identify your expertise, and analyze your market’s needs.  “Write” – (or record/tape) because nothing happens unless you just do it, create that infoproduct, share your knowledge with others.  “Retire” – because that’s what infopreneuring can help you do, if you want.

In another article soon, I’ll explore more specific areas of the infopreneur journey I’ve been enjoying for a decade and a half.  This short report was more of an overview of the process.  We’ll dig deeper into different parts of it, so that you can learn how to be an information entrepreneur too.

If you have any questions or issues you’d like addressed, please leave a note in the comments.

What gets you so excited you can’t wait to begin working on it today?

Think about it while you read the rest of this post.

In 1997, I got married. It was barely two weeks later that my wife and I had our first serious argument. The reason? I kept my computer turned on, working late into the night, while she wanted to sleep and couldn’t stand the flickering monitor screen disturbing her.

Fourteen years later, we’re still married and occasionally argue about things. The most frequent cause remains the same… I still work late into the night on my information marketing business!

What makes it worth doing for so many years? Through many acrimonious fights? At much personal hardship?

In a word – PASSION.

I love writing. I love the thought of my words touching many lives. I love that the profit from my labors helps little children live. Because I love this so much, I’m up early in the morning, eager to write and stay awake late into the night, grabbing every opportunity to write.

In fact, this very column you’re reading came about from my love for being an infopreneur. I contacted Yaro Starak to ask if he would like to publish an article I had planned about content curation. He replied that Entrepreneur’s Journey was looking for more regular contributions from writers who could publish a weekly column.

My first instinct was to say “No,” but then I realized this would give me a rare chance to keep writing one column every week for a full year, and have it read by a large audience of entrepreneurs and Internet marketers and online business owners…the very audience I’ve been reaching out to help over the years.

Passion won through and this article you’re reading came about!

Your passion may be different. Indeed, it would be rare to find two people who share exactly the same passions. But the reality is that everyone is passionate about something.

You probably are already aware of the things you’re passionate about. Or maybe you haven’t yet discovered it.

When you identify your passion and align it with whatever you’re doing, a magical synergy happens that will effortlessly carry you to rarefied heights. Work becomes joyous and pleasurable. Hours fly by, unnoticed. Tiredness and fatigue take the backseat as you power your way to greater achievements.

Yes, working on something you have passion for can be very rewarding. So how do you tap into this powerhouse of energy lying dormant inside you and harness it to your business and career?

It may happen quite by accident and you’re lucky if it does. However, you can also approach your “passion research” as a structured process. I’m going to share that method with you here.

Everybody – including YOU – has something they love. Something they know very well and enjoy doing. Something that’s a hobby or a favorite pursuit.

Maybe it’s a technical skill like computer programming. Maybe it’s an emotional issue like raising children with special needs. Maybe it’s a day-to-day activity like cooking or gardening. Maybe it’s something esoteric and exotic like searching for signs of alien intelligence. Or a hobby like traveling, knitting, racing or yachting.

Regardless of what, you are passionate about something.

The good news, as an online business owner and entrepreneur, is that you can build an information empire around any topic or issue that you enjoy and love, that you like reading, talking and writing about.

You don’t have to be an expert. You don’t even have to know much about your topic. You just have to be enthusiastic about it.

Once you identify such a topic, your passion conveys itself to your audience. It sucks them into your vortex, gets them involved, and converts them into your loyal fans. In time, this audience will evolve into a community with a spirit and ethos of its own – that revolves around your passion.

So, let’s begin the exploratory adventure of finding your real passions. Ready? Great. Let’s go.

Before beginning, I want you to repeat this sentence out loud – three times:

“Everything that happened in my life is worth money.”

Now go on and say it out loud. Three times. Done? Do you believe it? Well, you soon will!

Make sure you will not be disturbed for a reasonable length of time (maybe 30 minutes, or an hour). Sit down with a few sheets of paper and a pencil or pen.

On the first sheet of paper, make a list of your most important experiences, memories and skills. Start from early childhood and follow the events of your life sequentially.

What have you done? What successes and failures did you experience?Which ones taught you valuable lessons?

Anything that made an impact on your life could potentially be the one which hides your true passion within it.

For example, let’s say you watched a film star smoking cigarettes, and it led you to take up smoking as a teenager, until today you’re a chain smoker with bad lungs.

Would that make you want to stop this happening to other kids? Would you care enough to tell adults who smoke in front of children to do things differently? Maybe. If you felt particularly strong emotions about your current health, you may even be passionate about this mission.

So make your list. Add everything to it that you remember as significant life events. In school and college, or later at a job or career. In your family, your community, and in society. As a son or daughter, a sibling, a parent, a grand-parent.

To make it easier to bring these to memory, you can break down your past experience by decade. For each phase in your life, ask yourself the following questions:

What do you consider your best skills, talents and learning experiences? What specific things did you learn and become expert at?What were your greatest failures that you later learned to overcome? What are the lessons that you now consider most precious?

These questions are designed to get your brain charged and to jump-start your thinking. As you pick up steam, you’ll find your list growing bigger, faster. Take as long as you need to make your list. Then, when you’re finished, go through each item and ask yourself these 5 questions:

1. Does this topic interest and excite you?
2. Can you create useful content about this topic?
3. Do you know a lot about this topic?
4. Are you eager to share your knowledge and experience with others?
5. By sharing this, will you help many people?

At the end of this short, simple exercise, you’ll have a very short list – maybe only one thing remains on it. And it will be what you are passionate about!

It will be something you’ll wake up with the lark (early in the morning) for  and that you’ll stay awake with the owl (late into the night) with… because you love doing it, reading, talking and writing about it, sharing it with the world.

When you find a way to tie that in with your business, you’ll enjoy everything you do along your entrepreneurial journey… for a long, long time to come.

But this doesn’t mean you can simply rush out and launch a business around your passion. There’s one more step to take before making that decision, and we’ll address it in another report soon.

What do you think about linking passion to your business and entrepreneur ventures? Share your thoughts and feedback about the “passion research” process in the comments below.

Lo que aprendí de taller de estilo de vida de Internet instantánea de Lee McIntyre

Translate Request has too much data
Parameter name: request

Ever since I started in Internet Marketing back in January of 2008, I’ve come across a ton of Internet Marketers who teach all kinds of topics relating to growing an online business. I’ve signed up for a bunch of mailing lists and have received all kinds of info from these guys, including a bunch of Spam.

At a certain point, I decided to cut most internet marketers off. I unsubscribed from a bunch of mailing lists except for four. After receiving so much overwhelming info, I decided to stick with the ones that I’ve received the most value from. Lee McIntyre was one of those guys, and I just couldn’t let him go. Why? Let’s put it this way . . .

I had ONE coaching call with him when I used to run an Internet Marketing Forum. I left that coaching call with actionable info that I was able to implement and increase my income by $1,000 that same week. Does that sound crazy? It still does to me! I’ll tell you more about it later.

One of the reasons I like Lee so much is because he used to be a High School teacher, just like me. However, at one point in his teaching career, he got fed up and decided to start an online business.

In a rather short period of time, he was able to start and grow an online business to the tune of $7,230.95 in just 29 days. He’s used a combination of making information products, promoting affiliate products, blogging, outsourcing and a few other tactics to grow a strong online empire.

Back in August of 2010, Lee McIntyre did a live 2-day workshop in Manchester, U.K. where he taught a room-full of internet Marketers how he went from a high school teacher to growing a massive online business – one that at the time was making him over $100,000 per month and currently makes over $200,000 per month. These marketers all paid $997 to attend this workshop, and from what I’ve seen, they’ve all raved about the value they received.

Lee had a professional video crew at the program and had a series of videos made that gives access to that workshop. He initially planned on selling it for $1,997, but decided to basically give it away in order to get more people exposed to his content.

The program consists of 10 hours of high quality training, where he gives a proven blueprint that anyone can follow to grow a solid online business. Here are some of the concepts taught in the program:

How to build a list quicklyHow to get your list to trust youHow to get your subscribers to beg you to sell them more stuffHow to become a Super AffiliateHow to automate your businessHow to create amazing products quicklyHow to get a lot of traffic by having others do the work for youHow to get the big guys to stop ignoring your JV requestsAnd Much more . . .

Here’s a screenshot from inside the program that shows the modules that are provided in the program:

As you can see, it covers a wide variety of topics that are crucial to having a thriving online business, starting with beginner concepts all the way to more advanced topics.

In addition to all of that training info, he includes a number of bonuses that he doesn’t mention. Here are some screenshots of the bonuses:

Ok, that sounds like a bunch of sales talk. Let me give you my personal experience with the program.

When I found out about the program, I decided I needed to check it out. The price was very low (under $20), so I really didn’t have anything to loose. I spent the next 3 days going through the content and was so amazed at how much value I had gotten for the $20 that I had to call up one of my Internet Marketing buddies on the phone to share some of the things I learned.

Since then, I’ve been using it as a reference. I go back to that training every so often to see what gold nugget I can take and implement in my business to help me take my business to the next level.

When it comes to Internet Marketing, the first part of the equation (in my opinion) is learning. However, the second and more important part, is taking action. Instant Internet Lifestyle provides you with a solid model of how to build an online business, but it is the action that follows that allows you to really take it to the next level.

Using Lee’s strategies, I’ve been able to have my name listed as a top affiliate for a few big name internet marketers, including Lee himself. In fact, by implementing the stuff he teaches, he has sent me more affiliate payments than any other internet marketer I’ve worked with. I feel like I’ve been equipped to be able to more effectively promote products of value from what I’ve learned.

I first watched the training in October of last year, and I’m still working on implementing the things I’ve learned. The step that I’m focusing on at the moment has to do with developing my own info product, and the program has taught me A LOT of what needs to be done.

Create a Low-Priced, High-value Product

The first step to having a strong online business the way Lee recommends is to create a low-priced, High-value product. This is done by finding a limited group of people with a problem. A problem for which they are looking for a solution. Once you have found that group, create a product that is the solution to that particular problem.

This product has to be so specific that it caters to a small subset of the population, not everyone. By doing so, it is so targeted that the people who are interested are really interested and more likely to make a purchase. The purpose of this low-priced, high-value product is to over-deliver on your promise, so that you can show your customers that they can trust you to deliver high quality content.

I like to say that by doing this, you become a trusted “expert friend”. Being in that position makes it very likely that they will buy from you in the future, or take your recommendations as to products/services that can help them accomplish their goals.

Develop a Strong Backend

Once you have a low-priced, High-value product, the next task is to develop a strong backend. This is done by making even higher-value products that you can sell to your customers after they have made this initial purchase. Since you’ve established that you are trustworthy, and that you deliver high value in the lower priced product, they are more likely to purchase what you have to offer at higher price points.

Lee has done this by creating membership sites and other products that deliver high-value. Because these higher-priced products are targeting individuals who already bought the initial product, conversion rates are significantly higher than if you are marketing to individuals who have never bought from you.

Have a Follow Up Sequence that Promotes the Strong Backend

How do you get your customers to purchase your higher-priced products? By letting them know that they are available and how they can help them accomplish more of their goals. This can be easily done using an autoresponder service. However, the goal of your follow up sequence is not simply to sell products. It’s to nurture a growing relationship with your subscribers.

Recruit Affiliates Effectively

One of the big mistakes many people make when promoting their own products is that they try to do all of the marketing themselves. Yes, it’s important to promote your stuff. However, it’s much more effective to have many people promoting for you. This can be accomplished by recruiting affiliates.

This is something that many people find challenging. With all the information products out there, how do you convince a potential affiliate to become an affiliate, especially if they have a big list and get many affiliate requests? You make them an offer they can’t refuse. In other words, offer them something of value beyond just a commission.

For example, in addition to a 50% commission, you can offer to make a video for them that they can use on their blog to offer value to their subscribers. You can can offer to write a series of articles that are free to use on their blog. Or, you can offer a full series of training videos specifically for their subscribers. Everyone has a price, and if you offer enough value, you’d be surprised at who will promote your product.

Make your Affiliates VERY Happy

If you are going to rely on affiliates to continually drive traffic to your website, you need to continually strive to make them happy. Offer them great support. Treat them like kings and queens. Increase your conversions so that they can make more and more sales. Do whatever you can to let them know that you value everything they do to promote your products and they will be more likely to promote it for you.

I have yet to find a perfect Internet Marketing product. Even the most valuable ones I’ve been a part of has had some flaws, but that’s just the nature of the beast.

Firstly, I’m not a fan of the name of the program – INSTANT Internet Lifestyle. It gives the impression that if you implement the stuff you learn, you will instantly get rich. The truth is – that is far from the truth for most people.

Yes, some people have taken action on the content and have had some remarkable success in a short period of time, but that is far from the norm. Like any other valid strategies, it takes time and effort. Yes, it is hard work growing an online business. But I like that you can work hard now to work less later :)

My other problem with the program is more a personal preference. Lee is big on upsells (part of the whole “strong backend” concept). This is quite common in internet marketing, but it’s something that I don’t like to see too much of. He has some other GREAT programs that he promotes along with it, but they can be quite intimidating – especially to new internet marketers.

However, when I compare those two things with the value that you receive in this program, they really don’t measure up. If you only ever buy that one product from him, and implement what he teaches, you will be ahead of the game.

I’m glad you asked. At the time, I was running a large forum, but was struggling to monetize it effectively. Lee introduced me to the concept of having a continuity program with little to no effort. He showed me HOW I could implement that concept to add a paid feature to my forum that could generate me monthly income.

He also showed me how to set it up in an easy, and relatively stress-free way so that my members would thank me for what I was doing. Well – to make a long story short, it worked, and that made me happy :) .

It was a simple concept, but one that I lacked the clarity to see. Lee was able to help me to see beyond what was happening in my business at the time to what needed to be done.

Instant Internet Lifestyle is hands down one of the best Internet Marketing products I’ve found and THE most affordable. At a price point of under $20, there is virtually no risk involved. You get a lot of actionable content from someone who knows what he’s doing and knows how to teach. When you combine those two factors, you get a very powerful combination.

In the event that you don’t like it, or didn’t get as much value as you’d like to get for your $20, you can request a refund within 30 days.

I highly recommend for anyone interested in learning more about building an online business to get it. Even if you never purchase any of his other programs, it’s one of those investments that you won’t regret.
